Trail Description

Razzas Circuit is a variant on the start of the Lerderderg River Heritage Walk ride.

It starts at the Recreation Reserve, heads up Skinners Road, follows the Great Divide Trail for a bit before heading south up a fire trail back out to the Greendale - Trentham Road, a bit further south along the Greendale - Trentham Road to the Big Wombat before heading off down a gnarly fire trail (this is Razzas Track which is shown in the cream colour above) that the 4WDs and motor bikes have shredded which makes for a fast and entertaining drop down into Whipstick Gully (or a challenging climb up if done in the opposite direction) before picking up another large length of the Great Divide Trail.

This part of the Great Divide Trail is the same as the mid section of the Lerderderg River Heritage Walk ride between the Recreation Ground and the Garden of St Erth.

The following photo gallery has been taken in order from the Recreation Reserve heading south via Skinners Road and then undertaking the ride in a clockwise direction.

Recreation Reserve to Greendale-Trentham Road

From the Recreation Reserve, head up the hill and turn right onto Simmons Reef Road, left onto Skinners Road and then right onto the Great Divide Trail at the trailhead marker on the right. Follow this for about 300 - 400 metres until you get to the turnoff shown in the first photo - note the brown post in the middle of the photo (note these have been replaced with new posts since the photo). The Great Divide Trail and the track that heads up the hill run in parallel for a short distance and the Great Divide Trail does a sharp right and heads down to Garden of St Erth. Don't follow the Great Divide Trail - head straight ahead. Grind on up the hill and if you are on the right track you will pass a large dam on the left with a house. Keep going until you get to the Greendale - Trentham Road. The road is quite rough so presents a reasonable challenge when combined with the steepish slope.

Head up the fire trail and keep climbing.

The trail keeps heading up - it will be rough for most of the year except maybe near summer where it will be regraded. When you get to the Greendale-Trentham Road, turn right and follow Telstra Track until you get to the Wombat sign. This is where Razzas Track starts and heads off to the right down the hill.

Razzas Track

Initially Razzas starts out fairly flat.

Before starting to drop...

and drop...

Until you get to the chewed up bottom section...

But then it turns to a complete shred fest...

You have two options at the bottom. Just prior to the bottom (about 30 to 50 metres before the creek crossing), there is a reasonably well hidden trail (more so as you are concentrating due to the rough track!) You can turn left and follow the track around the gully. You can also head straight ahead up the other side of the valley (you probably will have to walk a short distance unless you're bloody good at technical climbing). You ultimately end up on the same trail which heads to the Garden of St Erth (refer Lerderderg River Heritage Walk notes for further details). If you want the longer loop head off to the left.

Made it... You can either pick up the St Erth Loop and head back to the rec reserve (right turn) or the Garden of St Erth (left turn). This is the beauty of Razzas Track in that it ties the eastern, southern and western rides together.

Heading back towards St Erth by single track.

Heading towards the back of St Erth.
